There are people who are remembered for what they do; sports, acting, politics. Then there are people like Bill and Shirley who will always be remembered for who they are. Bill and Shirley Gay touched everyone who came into contact with them and they gave the love of Jesus without bias. Although they only have one blood child, Tanya Marie, they have an extended family of multitudes, this is their story told by the people they touched. I know that Bill and Shirley would not want us to glorify or lift them up but I owe them in ways I can never repay. When I began to consider ways that I could honor them. I remembered Shirley talking about how the Indians they served, on the reservation, had honored them by giving them a Quilt. The pastor of this church received this honor after serving five years, yet Bill and Shirley were given a quilt after only five months. This gave me an idea of how I might honor them, a book of testimonies from those who have been touched by their unselfish love and service to the King of Kings. It is rare blessing when you come into contact with people that are dedicated to serving God beyond the standard obligations of the church. Bill and Shirley give above and beyond the call of duty by giving an abundance of time and personal resources. With the love of Jesus in their hearts, they never turned anyone away no matter what they looked like or how they smelled and they were always the first to volunteer help when there was a need. They are always there to help before… they are asked. It is because of Bill and Shirley that many have experienced, not religion, but what it means to know and experience a living personal God.
